Waiting for TomTom

I've been sitting here for a good few hours now as I (not so) patiently wait for TomTom to transfer maps of just about all of Europe onto my XDA II mini. I can't quite decide whether it's the software, or my phone that's the bottleneck (with a USB 2.0 connection, the wire shouldn't be the problem), but I do know it's annoying.

The fact that the setup.exe is constantly maxing out one of the processor cores (ooh, look at him with his dual-core!) suggests to me it's the TomTom setup software (or maybe ActiveSync) that's the cause of the trouble.

Lol 3am, it seems that all transfers I do take ages aswell, with my old XDA 2i I tried to backup the system onto an SD card and it took 2 hours but backing up to the PC it took 5 mins ?. I don’t know for certain but it is a combination of a few things, the cradle or transfer cable for my XDA 2i is USB 1.1 and doesn’t take advantage of USB 2.0 speeds, did a quick search looks like it might be the case for you mini aswell. With the speed down to 1.1 speeds the hardware might be slow and with it going through ActiveSync, then through the phone’s software before it reaches the memory card will make it very slow. How long did it take roughly to transfer how much?

For my SE P910i to transfer anything through the USB cable to the memory card is like 1 MB/min, ridiculous (it does a software bridge over a com port – “blasphemy out loud”).

Heh, well I gave up shortly after this post once I'd finished the Germany, Austria, Switzerland disc (~400MB) that had taken an hour or two.

Today I need to get France and Italy added on.
