Over 1,000 photos

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Tonight I’ve been uploading some more photos from my road trip and I noticed that I’ve now got over 1,000 photos on my flickr account.

Even this is only a small portion of the photos I’ve taken during the time I’ve had the account, but I’m not really one to pick out only the few very best of my photos to list so a lot do get uploaded. It’s an interesting milestone if nothing else :)

Finally!

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Aside from flickr’s interesting re-design for going ‘gamma’, they’ve finally provided a page to just find recent comments made on any of your photos instead of having to search through all photos with comments and looking for ones that have more than they used to.

I have the feeling this feature may have already existed hidden away somewhere in the old ‘beta’ flickr (if it didn’t then my previous astonishment at the lack of such an obvious feature continues), but it at least now pops out at me. It seems like a small feature, but the number of times I’ve stumbled across comments on my pictures that are up to a month old before I find them is many and I like to think that if someone takes time to comment on one of my photos I’ll get back to them in a reasonable time, so this feature is very welcome (seems there’s a RSS feed for it now too).

Home sweet home

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Just got home from my 16-day road trip around Europe. Got lots to update on the road trip website, but think I’ll just chill for a bit first hehe. It’s been a lot of driving (around 2,500-3000 miles) but great fun at the same time.

I did get hit by a speeding ticket just as we were leaving France, so I didn’t quite manage the entire trip without problems, but it was luckily a reasonably small fine and not worth arguing over (especially with a French policeman who spoke next to no English).

Still here…

Finally got ‘net access again a week into the road trip. We’ve just arrived in Nimes and I’m using a free Internet terminal in our hotel, so still can’t upload any photos.

I posted a few days’ worth of diary/journal/whatever on the road trip blog 4 days ago, so check that out if interested. Hopefully I’ll get a decent wi-fi connection soon so I can start uploading photos to flickr.

Follow-up to EHIC

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

After posting about how easy to use the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) application form was, I’m pleased to report that the good experience didn’t end there.

I received my card a couple of days later and both Ken and my Dad have both had the same experience - my Dad even got his the next day!

On the one hand, it’s a sad reflection of the lack of faith we have in government institutions that we’re so shocked when something goes smoothly. On the other, it’s just nice to see something work so smoothly. The only complaint I could have is that the site that originally linked to the EHIC application website made it a little awkward to find the actual link to apply online, but from there on in it was a breeze.

Anyway, I’m EHIC‘d up and ready to go.

Waiting for TomTom

Monday, May 1st, 2006

I’ve been sitting here for a good few hours now as I (not so) patiently wait for TomTom to transfer maps of just about all of Europe onto my XDA II mini. I can’t quite decide whether it’s the software, or my phone that’s the bottleneck (with a USB 2.0 connection, the wire shouldn’t be the problem), but I do know it’s annoying.

The fact that the setup.exe is constantly maxing out one of the processor cores (ooh, look at him with his dual-core!) suggests to me it’s the TomTom setup software (or maybe ActiveSync) that’s the cause of the trouble.

Want… to go… to bed…
